Question

I will be traveling to China in a few weeks.  I will be bringing a laptop with me because when I leave China I will be attending a conference in the U.S.A. before heading home.  I read somewhere that even though I can bring in a laptop I cannot bring any computer storage devices.  I always travel with my external hard drive.  Will I be allowed to bring my external hard drive with me?
