About:China Tourist Visa

I am an American citizen residing in Japan, and I am considering a vacation in China this summer. I notice that in section 4 on the visa application form, it asks for an inviter, contact, or relative in China. If I am simply going as a tourist, is it necessary to fill in this section? How should it be filled in? Thank you.
