About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

Hi, myself and a friend both with British passports will be travelling to Japan in November we will stay in Japan for around 1 to 2 weeks and then will be catching the ferry from Osaka to Shanghai. We obviously need to obtain a Chinese visa but have two questions..
1. Is it easy to obtain a Chinese Visa in Japan or is it better to apply for it in the UK before we go?

2. We plan to travel through China to Thailand. I have read that a Chinese visa is valid for 30 days, as it may take longer to travel through China to Thailand than 30 days is it possible to have a tourist visa that is valid for longer?

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks

yes, for UK passport holders, more likely you can get a visa to China in Japan. If you apply in Hongkong now, it is too early. And a visa extension is possible when you stay in china.
