About:Chinese Consulate in Melbourne

I have three serious criminal convictions from a year ago, I want to go to Hong Kong with my girlfriend for about 15-20 days, will I be allowed in? Should I tell them on my entry sheet about the convictions? I read somewhere that if they don't check it on the way in, but they do when I'm returning to Victoria, they might not let me back in, is this true?

If you have serious criminal convictions, you will not be allowed to enter China.
