I will be travelling to Shenzhen for work for one week. I have visible tattoos on my arms and 2 piercings in my lips. As a woman, would this be considered offensive to anyone? Do I need to cover my arms and take our my lip rings?

You'd better cover your arms and take out your lip rings. Some visa officers are conservative, if they have bad impressions on you, they will check you carefully, maybe refuse to enter Shenzhen.
