The Simatai sections were open on 11 June when we walked across from Jinshanling and our Guide made no mention of the Simatai section being closed. It is about a 1.7Km walk from Simatai Village to the Great Wall, uphill, along side the lake. Make sure you are fit and well, the wall on each side of the gorge is very, very steep. If you cross the suspension bridge the walk down the wall is steep, as is the track down to the bridge. Once across the bridge there are three tiers of very very steep steel stairs climbing about 100M up the cliff. Beyond these there is a very steep section of wall, including a hair raising track around one tower with a long drop off the side. There are no hand rails or safety barriers on the side tracks.
