About:Chinese Consulate in Chicago

hi, i am a usa citizen and plan to visit the shanghai world expo flying from philippines and back. can i avail of the visa exemption provided my stay in shanghai is 48hrs or less? pls. verify, thanks so much.

yes, you don't need a visa if your stopover in Shanghai is less than 48 hours, you can go out of the airport to visit Expo, the valid passports, final destination tickets and have booked seats are required.

mrs nancy, i will not be in transit actually when i go to shanghai, i am flying from the philippines and then fly back to philippines within 48 hrs. does the exemption still apply? thanks

The exemption still apply if you hold the air tickets from Philippines to Shanghai and Shanghai to Philippines, the visa to Phlippines and have booked seats on the flight from Shanghai to Philippines.
