Hello,I am Australian and currently holidaying in China. I am finding it very difficult to book 2 x soft sleeper seats from Datong to Xian (train starts in Baotou). Can anyone advise me if there is an online booking system that allows me to book these tickets at a reasonable price. Some websites are quoting almost double what others are quoting. Thanks in advance.

There are only two trains from Datong to Xian, so the tickets are always hard to buy. You can have a try to buy the tickets of Train 2671 and this one starts from Datong.
