About:How to Apply for a China Visa

I have a single entry visa for China. But before I visit China, I will be flying from Tokyo to Hong Kong with a layover in Beijing. Will my transfer in Beijing count as my entry into China? I will need to be able to fly back into China for my actual visit a few weeks later, and am worried that I will be denied entry if my transfer counted as my entry.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
