About:China Tourist Visa

Unfortunately, I did not read this website before getting my China visa. I entered China on a 6 month dual entry L visa and converted to a 6 month "Temporary Residency Permit" visa. My plan is to head back the USA to handle various affairs and then apply for a 24-month multi-entry visa -- I was born in China and also am married to a Chinese national so I in theory qualify for either class. However, I really do not want to drag my kids on two 15-hour flights for them to apply for the same type of visa so they would get another 6-month 0 entry/exit visa here in China. But that means they could not encompany me to trips to Hong Kong or Macau without having to redo the visa process. Any ideas on possible options? Would it be possible for U.S. citizens (that meet the necessary requirements) to apply for longer China visas in Hong Kong/Macau or a closer local country -- say Vietnam?

yes, your kids can't visit Hong Kong or Macau with you because they hold temporary residence permit. After they go to Hong Kong or Macau, they can't return to China if they don't have a multiple entry visa now. I advice that your kids can apply for Chinese tourist visa in Hong Kong, but it is difficult for multiple entry L visa with 12 months validity.
