I and my family(of 4) will be visiting Guangzhou for two days, arrive on 21st and leave 23rd December evening and would like to make a one day trip to Hong Kong i.e leave Guangzhou in the morning and get back in the evening. How would I make that trip cost effectively and do we need a visa?

No, you do not need a visa to Hong Kong. I think the most effective way to Hong Kong is to take train from Guangzhou East Railway Station. The cost is 190yuan per ticket and it needs only 1 hour and 45 minutes.

I am trying to book the train to Hong Kong online but I don't have a password so I am wondering whether we can book the train when we arrive at the hotel on 21st evening for travel on 22nd at 8.15am. How long is it from Best Western Baiyun Hotel to Guangzhou East Station and what is the best mode of transport? Please also advice me on the best way to travel from the airport to the hotel when we arrive and how much is it especially if we use a taxi?Thanks
