Does anybody know where will the New Year Eve celebration, 31st Dec 2009 be? Is there any announcement on the site of the firework? I am still waiting for the exact location for me to make hotel reservation. Thank you.

There will be some New Year's Countdown held with performance in Shanghai. The most famous one is located at the Taiping Bridge, Xintiandi. Or, you could go to the Bund and the People's Square for fun.

Thank you Mr Leostar, I would like to stay near the Taiping Bridge, Xintiandi since the famous countdown is there. Any idea what are the hotels nearby? Is Westin Hotel or Renaissance Yuyuan Garden Hotel nearby? What is your recommendations if I want to view the firework from my room? Which hotel has the best view of the firework?

The hotels you mentioned are not nearby Xintiandi Taiping Bridge. The fireworks are shown  in Taiping Lake and the close hotel should be 88 Xintiandi – Boutique Hotel, I think. I did not stay there once before. I just recommend for its location.
