About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I am an American citizen who has been living in China. This fall I am traveling in Southeast Asia for a couple months. My Chinese visa expires on October 11th, so I need to renew my visa before going back to China in November. I have read that there is a current requirement that visas need to be issued in a person's home country. Is this true? Or is it possible for me to get a new 1 year multiple entry tourist visa in Singapore during my travels?

Also, does anyone have any information on where it would be easier to get a visa - Singapore or KL?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, it is true. I also read some experience about applicants should apply Chinese visa in their own country. I guess the visa policy will be lessened after the China's National Day, maybe you can apply for a new tourist visa in Singapore or Malaysia at the end of October.
