About:Chinese Embassy in Germany

When I come back from Australia, I have to wait for a flight to Germany in China (8 hours) and I would like to use this time to go out and see a bit of the country. However, I read that I need an invitation to get my visa. Is this true?
Furthermore, I would like to know if it is possible to get the visa without having to physically go to the consulate/embassy. Is it possible to tramit it per post? Looking forward to your answer.

You can apply for a transit visa (Category: G) or a standard tourist visa (Category: L)

If you don't leave the airport, you even don't need a China visa.

If you will stop st beijing, you will need to apply for a transit visa.
An invitation letter is not necessary for China Transit visa application.
China embassy in Germany don't accept visa application by post, but you can entrust a trave agency to process tha visa for you if you don't want to go to the embassy in person.
