About:China Visa

Hi, I think I've posted on my question on the wrong section the first time.

I'm holding a Canadian passport with a long-stay Japanese working visa and planning to visit Hong Kong and Shanghai. I've read from the official website that I need a round-trip plane ticket in order to apply for the visa. All I have now is the round-trip plane ticket for Tokyo and Hong Kong because I'll be purchasing the plane ticket to Shanghai together with my friends in Hong Kong. Will I be able to apply for the visa?
Thank you in advance for answering my question.

Yo are not able to get the China visa without the air ticket to China, but you can apply for the visa in Hk after you get the round-way air tickets to Shanghai.

Thanks for you reply. I was able to call the embassy today and the lady told me that the requirement has been changed and a round-trip ticket won't be necessary to apply for visa. They haven't changed it on English site yet.
