About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

Im a US citizen who will be traveling to China and staying with a friend who is currently living in China (Also a US citzen). I do not know how long I will be staying and will only be purchasing a 1 way ticket. I also will not have any hotel accommodations. Will I still be able to get a chinese L (tourist visa) without these? I would also like to get a multi entry visa as I will most likely travel to other nearby countries. Thanks in advance!
