Submarine Cable Break Affects Communication from China to the United States and Europe
China Unicom has confirmed that a malfunction in its FNAL/RNAL submarine cable has interrupted the communications from China to the United States and Europe. Unicom is now actively taking measures to fix the problem.
According to the International Business Department of Unicom, FNAL/RNAL cable is an important information channel linking the North Asia Region. Affected by Typhoon Morakot, FNAL/RNAL cable from Hong Kong to Taiwan was disturbed on August 12, 2009. However, the cable routing remained intact and the telecom service was unaffected. At about 14:20 of August 17, a section of the cable routing in Pusan, South Korea was damaged, thus causing the international communication from China to the United States and North America affected to different extents.
