Is it appropriate for women to wear shorts? I don't want to offend anyone or any culture. I'm trying to put together a light-weight suitcase, so I'm trying to take minimal clothing. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Am I able to get clothes in China? I'm an American size '10' or a European size '42'. Would this be a problem?

Take it easy, you can wear any casual clothes as you like, unless there is no mosque visiting in your itinerary. There is no problem for any other parts of your tour. For the clothing size, the Chinese size of 170-175 may meet your requirement. This won’t be a problem. I’m sure you can easily find the proper thing for you in China.
