About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

I'm an American citizen currently living and working in Japan. To obtain a Chinese visa, would it be possible to send in my passport and filled-out application by mail rather than go to the consolate in person?

Also, if I must go in person to the consolate, would I be able to obtain visas for two American friends living in Japan (given that I have their passports and applications), or would they have to come in person as well?

Thanks!

You'd better go to the consulate in person, but you can process the visa application for your friends with the permission of the consulate.
