I was wondering about how much cash to bring on my trip. Are Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) available country wide in China? I know here in Japan there are plenty of ATMs but only a small percentage except United States based ATM cards.

You’d better not take large amount of cash due to the safety reason and you can bring your major credit cards, traveler's check and a small amount of cash. Most hotels and shops in major cities accept most international credit cards.

You can withdraw money (Chinese Yuan) from ATM machines of Bank of China at any time, and the 24-hours self-help service is available. The ATM machine of Bank of China can accept most foreign credit cards, such as VISA, American Express, and MasterCard etc. You can also transact through a bank clerk. The working hours are 9: 00-17: 30 from Monday to Friday. They only work between the hours of 9:00 - 15:00 on weekends. So you are encouraged to transact businesses during the normal working days of the week. And if you take the traveler's check, it is very easy to cash them in your hotels.
