The Australian embassy is arranging a replacement passport for me which I should receive in 2 weeks time. I am then planning on going to Thailand before China. Is there any way I can get the visa transferred from the lost passport to the new passport in time for my flight to China without reapplying.

You may have to apply for a new visa with your new passport.
