Mike - my family and I were in BJ last year. Brilliant place. Stay in the suburbs and expereince the local culture. We stayed in Haodian district in the north west of Beijing (BJ) in a cheap and very clean Apartment complex. My son was swimmiing in the Paralympics. We stayed 2 weeks and went to the Great Wall (brilliant), Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Pearl Market, Silk Market, etc. The subway is so easy to get around and dirt cheap. You can take the subway directly to the Olympic area and get a guided tour easily. Taxis are cheap, but experince the buses and subway for a real treat. Go to the net for a subway map of BJ. Easy to get around for a very big city and safe. Let me know if you need more information. Greg.
