About:China Tourist Visa

I am a US citizen, and I plan to travel to China on a tourist visa in May 2009. Do I need to include a return ticket and/or confirmed itinerary with my visa application? I am slightly concerned that I will be refused a visa, so I'm hesitant to purchase an airline ticket until I know for sure.

You don't have to provide air tickets.
