My finace is in Chnagsha and I will be relocating there in the next few months to marry her. She tolk me to the Houogongdian Palace on our first date and I tried the "Stinky Bean Curd" along with about twenty other dishes and many Harbin beers (gan-bei!). I was told it was Chairman Mao's favorite restaurant for that dish and I found it quite palateable. I would have no propblem ordering it again - contrary to the name, it does not smell bad at all and tastes pretty good also. There is a large statue of Chairman Mao outsie the restaurant as well. I would highly recommend it if you are interested in the local cuisine. Also had the Sisters Rice Balls - bring your appetite and an empty stomach! I think you will not be dosappointed. I am anxious to go back on my next trip.
