About:Tianjin Transportation

Hi,

I will be travelling to Tanggu in Tianjin upon arrival at Beijing International Airport from Singapore next weekend. I hope to get some help on information about the new Bullet Train.

1. May I know how do I get to the Bullet Train
Station from Beijing Intl Airport?
What is the name of the Bullet Train Station to
take to Tanggu in Tianjin?
How far is the Bullet Train Station from Beijing
Intl Airport?

2. Can someone help to provide the timing of the
Bullet Train from
a. Beijing to Tanggu?
b. Tanggu to Beijing?
How often do the Bullet Trains run?
What time do they start running in the morning
and what time do they stop running at night?

Do I have to buy the Bullet Train ticket in
advance?

I appreciate your help.
Thank you very much.

The Bullet Train leaves from Beijing South Station. Bullet trains to Tanggu are...C2273 departs 10.45, CC2275 departs 12.35, C2277 departs 15.55, C2279 departs 18.50. Second class fare is 70yuan, First class 84yuan, VIP class 118yuan. Tickets can be purchased up to three days in advance from the station. Beijing hotels can assist in purchasing tickets but usually charge a small fee for doing so. Otherwise purchase the tickets from the automated ticket machines at the station ticket office or station entrance, or approach the ticket counter

Beijing South Station is about 45km from Beijing Airport. Two options...20yuan Airport Express train to DongZhiMen station, then 30 yuan taxi ride to Beijing South Station...or Taxi from airport approx 150yuan direct to Beijing South Station. There are buses from the airport but I'm not familiar with the routes. If your travel itinerary makes getting the Bullet Train difficult, you can take a bus from Beijing Airport to Tianjin city, cost is 90yuan (2.5 hours on bus). From there you can (a) take a taxi to Tanggu...130yuan(45 mins); or (b) take a taxi to ZhongShanMun light rail station for 50yuan(20mins), then 6yuan train ride to Tanggu on the light rail (4omins).

Hi Mr Peter Churchman from China,

First and foremost, thank you very much for your prompt response. I am very happy to read your reply, at least now I am getting confident to find my way around both cities.

You are very familiar with the places in Beijing and Tianjin. Can I ask you if Holiday Inn Binhai in Tianjin is located in Tanggu District?

When I reach Tanggu station, is it easy to take a taxi to Holiday Inn Binhai? How long is the journey from the station to the hotel and approximately how much should I pay the taxidriver?

On my return trip to Beijing, I will also be taking the bullet train from Tanggu. Do you know how I can obtain the bullet train schedule from Tanggu to Beijing? Is the bullet train journey from Beijing South/Tanggu and from Tanggu/Beijing South a direct route with no other station stop in between?

I read somewhere from the internet that the bullet trains from Beijing South/Tianjin and Tianjin/Beijing South have 5 stations i.e. they also stop at Yizhuang, Yongle, Wuqing & Tianjin Station. Is this another bullet train route to Tianjin which I should be careful not to take as it is not the same bullet train route that I should take to Tanggu?

Once again, I thank you very much. I am very grateful for all the help you have given me. I look forward to hearing from you soon on the above questions.

Ms Spring,
The Holiday Inn is not in Tanggu. It is in an area called TEDA, or "Kai Fa Qu". It is 10 min ride by taxi from Tanggu station, approx 15yuan. There are many taxis at the station but many drivers are choosy where to go, so you may be refused several times before finding a driver that will take you.
The Bullet Train schedule is available on the Bullet Train in the seat pocket, but it is not entirely accurate. You can check schedule at Beijing or Tanggu stations. I believe the following may be accurate C2274 depart Tanggu 12.14, C2276 depart 13.44, C2278 depart 17.04, C2280 depart 19.59.
The Bullet train follows one route only from Beijing, Tanggu is the end of the line but most of the trains terminate at Tianjin station, only a few make the onward journey to Tanggu. You cannot make a mistake at Beijing South Station. The platform entrances have electronic boards that show the Train number and departure time, which is also printed on the ticket. All seats on the Bullet train are allocated, the seat number is printed on the ticket so no danger of the train being overcrowded or not getting a seat on the train.
