About:Embassy & Consulates of Australia in China

Hello, Iam a British citizen travelling through Australia. Iam planning to fly to Hong Kong in April and from there travel into China. As far as I am aware there should be no problem with me getting the visa for China, whilst in Hong Kong. Could you confirm this? If so, how long would the visa take to be processed?
Kind regards
Wallace
p.s
If I do not get the Chinese visa before entering Hong Kong I will not have any proof of my willingness to leave Hong Kong within the next 30 days. Could this prove troublesome?

You can stay at most 180 days at Hong Kong without a visa. Through a travel agency, you can enter the Pearl River Delta area and Shantou area withour a visa for no more than 6 days through appointed port, Luohu, Huanggang and Shekou. If not, as far as I know, you should apply for a visa to China mainland via Hong Kong. You can have the on-site visa in those ports mentioned above.
