About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

I am an American citizen living in Japan. I was wondering if I could go to the Chinese embassy in Tokyo and apply for a visa from the 15th of Feb to the 28th of Feb for this year? How long does it take to obtain a visa if I were to apply for one for myself and my wife for the dates above? I was planning on visiting Beijing, Xi'an and the Great Wall so do I have to get any special permits? Thank you for your help and time.

Hi Matt,

I went to the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo last year and it was a pretty painless process. Check out their website. There is an English link with all the necessary maps and info. It takes about half a day to get through the paperwork, and then you wait four days, then go back and retrieve your passports with the visa. You can pay an extra fee and they will do it 'overnight'. Expensive but convenient. I hope the information helps. BTW, you do not need any special permits to visit the places you have mentioned.

Cheers,
