I lived in Putian in 2005/06. It's not got many tourists spots apart from the obvious Guanghua Temple which is vast and lovely to wander around, plagued by beggars out front I'm afraid. One little known place is the Zhongtan Waterfall area which is rarely visited. It has a suspension bridge over a gorge, trails up and down the mountain to follow, stepping stones over the river and of course a lovely waterfall. Further afield if you can get to Meizhou Island that's fantastic for views and trails - I took a bus then boat to get there. Also Ju Li Hou scenic area is gorgeous - best to hire a driver for the day to get there if you're not confident taking buses. Both are well worth making a day trip to. Weather in March should have warmed up - it got pretty cold there at times in the winter months. Hope that helps.
