No! During the Lunar New Year, the city is packed with people, as it is one of the longest holiday for locals. You can always enjoy shopping here.

I would not go out if I were you. We were there during the new year holiday. The MTR was so packed, the police had to close the entrances to stop people going into the station, inside the station there were millions of people queuing for ticket. Everywhere was so packed, traffic was completely paralysed. It was horrible. Pick pocketing is very serious during this kind of occasion.
