Is there a train from Nanjing to Xian? I am looking at going from Shanghai to Nanjing and then on to Xian with little to no hotel stays.

Don't worry about the train, there are 18 trains running from Nanjing to Xian (daily of course), with different class, different price et different duration depending on your choice.
