About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does this qualify for 10 day visa free to China

Fly out of Seattle,wa to Shanghai 9/30/26 arrive 10/1/26.
High speed train to Xian 10/5/26
Fly out of Xi’an to Beijing 10/7/26
Fly out of Beijing to Tokoyo , Japan 10/11/26
Fly out of Japan to seattle 10/14/26
I would purchase airline tickets before but do I need to buy train tickets also to show?

Sandy, you have perfectly understood the scheme and your itinerary, along with your dates, is ideally eligible for 240 hour visa free transit. The only thing that you should keep in mind is the fact that you are not allowed to have any kind of landing in Japan on your US to China route because Japan will be your immediate point after China. One tiny detail that I would change... If I were you I would fly Shanghai to Xi'an and take a high speed train from Xi'an to Beijing. Shanghai to Xi'an is a bit longish journey even for high speed trains and Xi'an to Beijing is ideal to enjoy high speed train experience. Have a nice visit to China.
