About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Are we eligible for 240 hours visa free visit to China

We are US citizens, we will arrive Shanghai on May 15, 2026 at 3 pm then to PEK airport then to Xian to Chunqiu, to Zhangjiajie, and back to Shanghai and leaving from Shanghai on May 25 at 5:30 pm to USA.

Are we eligible for 240 hours visa free visit to China.

I have to inform you that you did not supply us with a very important detail of your itinerary and that is the city/country/territory you will use to reach China. I understand that you will arrive Shanghai and that you will depart from Shanghai to US, but it is necessary to know about the airport that will precede Shanghai. If your itinerary has an airport just before Shanghai that is located in the country or eligible territory (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) different than US, your itinerary is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit, but if you plan to fly to Shanghai directly from US, then it is not. The time (your length of stay) you have presented is definitely acceptable since the day of arrival is counted as a day 0. The first day is the day immediately after the day of your arrival.
