About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240 hours visa free transit - route eligibility

I am an Indonesian citizen living in the UK.

I have some queries regarding the 240-hours visa free transit for my planned trip to Shanghai.

My planned route is London - Hong Kong (spend 2 days) - Shanghai - London. Does this route qualify for the visa free transit? I have mixed information online about this, some says this qualifies and others says it does not because origin and destination is still the UK despite the short transit in Hong Kong. Please could you advise?

Also my passport is a standard passport (not e passport) - is this still eligible for the visa free transit?

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit. The basic rule clearly defines that the immediate points before and after mainland China have to be in two different countries or eligible territories. Eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. As you can see, your immediate points are Hong Kong and UK and exactly this detail makes you eligible for 240 hour visa free transit.

You can definitely use your standard passport to travel to China under 240 hour visa free transit scheme. Just to conclude, you are good to go and you can do that with absolute peace of mind. Have a nice visit to China.
