About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

is there a limitation on number of 240 visas?

I am travelling from UK to China [Beijing to Shanghai land tour 7 days) & then picking cruise up from Shanghai to Japan for 7 days.

I then need to fly back from Shanghai to UK at the end of the cruise. The 240 Visa will have expired, am i able to do another one for the Japan - China - UK trip?

Claire, your entire itinerary is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit - twice. You do not have to bother yourself about this detail any more because it is perfectly fine to use 240 hour visa free transit scheme twice within a very short time frame. I will stress the importance of correct terminology because this is not 240 visa, but 240 hour visa free transit, so there is no visa at all of any kind.

One more detail. When you land in China you will be covered by 240 hour visa free transit and as soon as you depart China by cruise, this scheme is considered to be terminated. So, it does not expire after 240 hours, but at the very moment when you leave China. In other words, you can theoretically return to China after a couple of hours for a brand new 240 hour visa free transit scheme. I hope this helps and I wish you a wonderful journey.
