About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Train travel through areas not covered by this policy

So here is a tricky question, I intend to take the train from Haikou to Shenyang, both end covered by the 240 visa free policy. The tricky part is this particular train will pass a massive area of Jiangxi Province, which currently only have 2 tiny cities covered by the policy. Some website suggests this train is off limit as it travels pass through hundred miles of area not covered. Any firm answers from you guys on this issue? As of now, train travel that involve with Kunming, Shanxi and Jiangxi seems to be off limit by judging from the literal meaning of the restricted area. Thanks.

You can take a train crossing the areas not covered by 240 hour visa free transit, but it has to be a single ticket and you are not allowed to have an itinerary with a train change and also you are not allowed to exit the train until the first station located in the allowed area. There were examples of train itineraries of this kind and the most used is Datong to Xi'an. This route crosses Shanxi province that is not allowed area with the exception of two cities, Datong being one of them. So, the answer is, yes, you can take such a train, but no changes of trains and no exits from the train until you reach allowed area. I hope this helps.
