About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will my trip be covered under the 144 day rule?

I will be traveling from San Francisco to Shanghai with a layover in Vancouver. The same would happen in the return trip. The total stay would be 5 days in shanghai and I have 3 hours in vancouver where I could leave the airport to make this work. Does this qualify for the exemption? Thanks

Country immediately before and after Shanghai is what matters. Since your entry and exit country are Canada you are not eligible. You need to be non-stop to the third country.
