About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit Visa Requirement in China

Good evening!

I am Indonesian citizen currently working and residing in Tokyo.

I booked flight ticket from Tokyo to Istanbul with detail itinerary below using China Southern Airlines.

1. Flight CZ648. Depart from Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) on 13th March 15:40. Arrived at Beijing Daxing Airport (PKX) on 13th March 18:55.
2. Flight CZ6914. Depart from Beijing Daxing Airport (PKX) on 14th March 07:10. Arrived at Urumqi (URC) on 14th March 11:55.
3. Flight CZ6035. Depart from Urumqi (URC) on 14th March 19:40. Arrived at Istanbul Airport (IST) on 14th March 21:50.

I will enter China through Beijing Daxing Airport (PKX) on 13th March 18:55 and leave China through Urumqi Airport (URC) on 14th March 19:40 which mean my total transit duration in China is 24hour 45minutes.

As Indonesian citizen I am eligible for 240 hour TWOV free transit, but it seems Urumqi is not part of the eligible Airport. Moreover, I am also eligible for 24 hour TWOV free transit which is applicable to all Airport, but concern here is my total transit duration in China is 45minutes extra.

Could you please advise me about this trip? Can I board the Tokyo-Istanbul flight without visa? Or do I need to apply additional visa?

Unfortunately, your itinerary is not eligible for 24 hours visa free transit because you have exceeded your total transit time (max 24 hours) for 45 minutes. Also, your itinerary is not eligible for 240 hour visa free transit because Urumqi airport is not enrolled in 240 hour visa free transit scheme. In other words, Urumqi is not eligible for entries / exits to and from China when traveling on 240 hour visa free transit. Just to conclude, you will have to obtain a Chinese (G) transit visa for this itinerary in advance. Applying and obtaining a G transit visa is the easiest because the entire procedure is simplified compared to other visa types. I am sorry for bringing you these not favorable news, but it is better to know the reality than to be denied boarding the plane. Hope this helps.
