Part 1:
The first and the most important detail is that you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. As you can see, the total transit time in China, counted from your first scheduled landing in China (in Shanghai) until your last scheduled departure from China (from Beijing) is shorter than 24 hours. I would assume that you will fly MU716 / MU5165 / MU2051. If I am correct, you will arrive at Beijing Capital at 23:50 and depart from Beijing Daxing at 14:00 the next day.
Here is what will you do at both airports. First in Shanghai:
- Upon your landing in Shanghai you will fill out arrival card that you will find at the airport and maybe it will be also dispensed at the aircraft and you will tick the box - transit on it.
- You will perform fingerprinting at automatic fingerprinting machine.
- Approach 24/240 hour visa free transit where you will present your flight tickets and where you will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to cross the immigration because your Shanghai to Beijing flight will be purely domestic one or in other words, you will formally enter China. This is all free from any charge.
- When you have completed the first three steps, you will cross the immigration and head to the gate for your flight to Beijing Capital airport. Your inbound and your outbound flight, both use Pudong T1 terminal.
As you can see, your transit time in Shanghai is quite limited, so you should be very fast in accomplishing all the formalities. It is all doable within 2 hour time frame, but your agility is definitely required! The good detail is that your luggage will be tagged all the way to Beijing Capital airport, but you will just confirm this detail during your check-in in Brisbane.
