240-hour visa-free transit policy

I plan to travel from Toronto to Hong Kong, where I will stay at a hotel near Sheung Wan. Following my stay in Hong Kong, I intend to travel to Zhuhai and stay at the Guangdong Hotel Zhuhai, located at 1145 East Yuehai Road, Gongbei. After my visit in Zhuhai, I will return to Hong Kong and stay again in the Sheung Wan area. Could you please advise on the most convenient route that qualifies for the 240-hour visa-free transit policy?

The most practical route, in my opinion is the following one:

- Take a ferry or a bus to Macau. You need Macau as a third eligible territory because your visit to mainland China has to have its immediate points, before and after mainland China in two different countries or eligible territories (Hong Kong and Macau, along with Taiwan are eligible territories under 240 hour visa free transit scheme).
- Exit Macau toward Zhuhai via Hengqin port. Please, have in mind that it has to be Hengqin and not Gongbei port (border crossing)!
- Before your entry into mainland China (Zhuhai) you have to buy your exit ticket from mainland China because you will be asked to present it at Hengqin border crossing.
- The most comfortable option is to buy Zhuhai (Jiuzhou port) to Hong Kong ferry ticket through TurboJet ferry website. It is highly advisable to print out that ticket or at least to have it as a screenshot on your smartphone.
- When traveling on 240 hour visa free transit you are not limited to just Zhuhai city limits. In reality, you can visit larger portions of mainland China before your departure from Zhuhai toward Hong Kong.
- It is important to take care not to apply for Zhuhai 3 day visa on arrival at Hengqin border crossing because this is not what you are looking for. You will see some applying for this visa, but this one is not for you because you will apply for a temporary entry permit under 240 hour visa free transit.
- When the time comes you really have to take exactly that ferry you have bought your ticket for.
