Mqureshi, if you are a citizen of New Zealand you can do that since the citizens of New Zealand can enter and stay in China for up to 30 days visa free. If you are a citizen of Pakistan you will have to apply for a temporary entry permit upon your landing in Beijing. So, upon your landing you will fill out arrival card and tick the box - transit on the card. After that you will perform fingerprinting at automated fingerprinting machines. When you are done with that you will approach 24/240 hour visa free transit where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets. Temporary entry permit is not a right, but is issued as a bonus or in other words, it is always considered and decided based on case by case basis. You can be granted or denied a temporary entry permit based on a discretionary decision of the relevant official at that very moment. In any case, you are advised to try to obtain a permit and even if denied there are no consequences. You will just remain in the transit area of Beijing airport. I hope you will be successful.
