Actually, this is not doable. You should not rely on 24 hour visa free transit, but on 240 hour visa free transit instead. You can exit from Hong Kong toward Guangzhou, but not by taking a train, but by taking a ferry. Taking a train to exit Hong Kong toward mainland China is not eligible. Eligible option is to take a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou (in Shenzhen) or to Nansha (located south from Guangzhou and connected by it by metro). Your stay in mainland China, counting from your scheduled arrival until your scheduled departure has to be longer than 24 hours at least for 1 minute. Before you depart from Hong Kong you will have to buy your ferry ticket from Shekou (in Shenzhen) to Macau. Here you cannot use a train again because Macau is not physically connected to the mainland China by train. So, you can take a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou or Nansha and travel from Shekou to Macau. This is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa for certain. Please, just do not forget to buy your Shekou to Macau ticket in advance, even before you depart from Hong Kong toward mainland China. Have a nice journey.
