About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US Citizen HK to Guangzhou to HK or Macau

Hello, I am a US citizen with a US passport. I will be in HK for a few days. What should I do to qualify for mainland China's 24 hour visa-Free transit policy. My goal is to have lunch with relatives in Guangzhou so I don't plan on staying in mainland China for more than 24 hours.

For example, can I use the high speed rail from HK to Guangzhou then take the high speed rail from Guangzhou to HK? What if I want to go to Macau after Guangzhou?

Sorry you cannot get the 24h transit if take a train to GZ and then back to HK. It's passible in theory if you go as HK - GZ - Macau but I haven't seen cases obtaining the 24h transit at West Kowloon (in theory, all open ports can be the entry port). But to be on the safe side, I advise you to take a ferry from HK to Nansha Port in GZ to apply for it, more feasible.
