About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Inquiry Regarding Transit in Beijing – Permission to Leave Airport

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to seek clarification regarding the visa and transit policy for my upcoming travel itinerary.

My confirmed flight details are as follows:

1. Airline / Flight Number: Air China CA128
2. Route: Osaka to Beijing – Arrival on 13 October at 19:15
3. Connecting Flight: Beijing to Kuala Lumpur – Departure on 14 October at 16:20
4. Baggage: Checked through to Kuala Lumpur

As my layover in Beijing is approximately 23 hours, I would like to confirm whether I am permitted to leave the airport temporarily to stay in a hotel in Beijing before returning to the airport for my onward flight.

If this is permitted under the 24-hour visa-free transit arrangement, I will proceed to book a hotel accordingly.

David, you should be aware that the citizens of Malaysia can enter China absolutely visa free for a stay of up to 30 days. You should not bother yourself with 24 or 240 hour visa free transit and similar stuff. Your entry to China is practically the same as if you were traveling to Singapore or Thailand. In other words, you do not need to ask any permission to exit the airport. When you land in Beijing you will fill out an arrival card and you will tick the box - transit. After that you will perform fingerprinting at automatic fingerprinting machines. When you are done with that you will go straight to the immigration. If asked anything by an official you will just say that you go to the hotel to rest until your next flight. After that you will leave the airport to enjoy your rest or to explore the city - as you wish. Have a nice journey.
