Exit to HK from Shenzhen on transit visa (240 hrs)

Hi,

Does it work to take the train/ferry to exit Shenzhen and go to Hong Kong on a transit visa?

The whole itinerary is Hanoi -> Zhangjiajie airport -> Shenzhen (by train) -> Hong Kong. The travel between Shenzhen -> Hong Kong is confusing and I’m finding conflicting information on whether it’s OK to travel by train or safest to go by ferry (as I’ve read some people were forced to buy a plane ticket even though they had tickets booked by train to Hong Kong). Thanks in advance for the advice!

Elise, it’s feasible to go to HK from Shenzhen by train under the 240h visa free transit.

For the direction from HK to Shenzhen to use the 240-hour visa free transit, one must travel by ferry and train is not eligible.

I will get off Hong Kong from Holland America cruise ship on December 7, 2025 then I will fly back to USA on December 10, 2025. Can I take the high speed rail at West kowlon station to china and eligible for 240 hrs visa?
Please advise,
Thank you very much.

Yes, you can. But you need to print out the train ticket info from Shenzhen to Hong Kong even before you boarding the flight from Hanoi to Zhangjiajie, or at least have a screenshot of it.
