About:China Visa on Arrival

Minimum Time allowed in China

Hi. I am looking at flying through China. What is the minimum stopover time that customs will give me a visa to leave the airport and explore a city please. Is it 8h or 10h layover? Does it vary between cities?

Georgie, since you are Australian citizen you do not have to bother about the length of your layover because you can enter China visa free for up to 30 days even if your layover is just 3 hours long. In other words, when you land in China, the first thing that you will do will be to fill out arrival card and on the card you will ticket a box where it is written - transit. After that you will perform a quick and automated fingerprinting. When you are done with these two details, you will just proceed to the immigration and from there to the city to enjoy your time on your own. You do not have to do anything at 24/240 hour visa free transit counter because that counter is a compulsory stop for the countries that do not belong to China visa waiver scheme. In general, again for those countries without visa waiver scheme, usual required time to be allowed to exit the airport is 8 hours of layover length. Have a nice visit to the Chinese city of your choice.
