About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240 Hours Shenzhen to Shantou by high speed metro train ?

Swedish citizen/passport thinking of flying from Copenhagen to Hong Kong then train from Hong Kong to Shenzhen airport and then high speed train from Shenzhen to Shoutou and staying in Shantou for 10 days and then train from Shantou back to Hong Kong. Can I get a 240 hour free visa then? Or do I have to fly to Hong Kong, I mean can I only travel by high speed train to and from Shantou?

Here we have two problems. You cannot take a train to exit from Hong Kong toward mainland China (it is eligible to use it other way round though) and you cannot have Hong Kong as your immediate point when you travel toward mainland China and when you return from there. The solutions is easy, but requires some time. My suggestion for you is to introduce Macau into your itinerary. In other words, you can do like this. Take a ferry from Hong Kong to Macau. Immediately take a ferry from Macau to mainland China, but to Shekou port in Shenzhen because Shekou port is eligible port for entry under 240 hour visa free transit. When you arrive in Shenzhen you will take a train to Shantou. After your 10 days stay there you can take a direct train to Hong Kong West Kowloon station. Please, have in mind that you will have to book your train ticket for Shantou to Hong Kong West Kowloon station in advance, even before you depart from Macau toward Shekou. Also, you will print out that train booking confirmation and have it at hand because you will be asked to present one in both Macau (when exiting toward Shekou) and in Shekou upon your arrival there. If you do exactly as I have explained, you can enjoy your planned travel covered by 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Have a nice visit to China.
