240 hour visa

For UK residents wanting to visit China using the 10 day (244 hour) visa free pass, does it make a difference if they have already had a china visa in the past, if there a certain time I would need to be out of the country before I can re-enter on a 240 hour visa? I am aware that this only works in some provinces and cities and requires me to enter the country from an 'A' destination and exit to a 'C' destination. I am currently living and working in China however my visa expires on the 15th of July. Would it be possible for me to exit the country before this, say to Thailand, and re-enter the country within 3 weeks using the 240 hour visa free and then exit to the UK once the 10 days is up. Or would I need to apply for another visa even though I would be there for tourist purposes?

No different with a China visa in the past and no certain time required before re-entering.
It's feasible if flying to Thailand before your visa expires and re-enter to apply for the 240, then exit to the UK within 10 days. So you don't need a visa for the re-entry.
