About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

For 240 and 24 hr visa free transit

My family and I are taking a multicountry trip including China in July/Aug. Here is our itinerary:

USA (Seattle) to Taiwan (Taipei) for 3 days à China (Shanghai PVG Airport) and staying in Shanghai for 3 days to Japan (cruise departing from Baoshan terminal in Shanghai) for 8 days to China (Boashan port) to PVG Airport (same day) to Taiwan (layover) to USA (Seattle)

Do we need a visa or are we covered with the 10 day policy? I wanted to double check because Baoshan terminal isn’t specially listed as a port where visa free travel is permitted.

Actually, Baoshan terminal (port) is specifically listed, but its usually used name is Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal. So, Baoshan and specifically listed Wusongkou are one and the same - eligible for both 24 and 240 hour visa free transit. If your itinerary is the following, without any additional landings and docking: US - Taiwan - Shanghai - Japan - Shanghai - Taiwan - US, I can just tell you that you do not need any kind of visa because during your first stay in Shanghai you will be covered by 240 hour visa free transit and during your second, short stay by 24 hour visa free transit. Your itinerary is ideally structured to enjoy both visa free schemes and, again, you do not need any kind of visa. In reality, it is always easy to check by yourself by having in mind that both 24 and 240 hour visa free transit require that the immediate points before and after your visit to mainland China have to be in tow different countries or eligible territories. Eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. As you can see in both cases the immediate points during your two visits to mainland China are in two different countries or eligible territories. You are good to go and I wish you a pleasant journey.
