Visa for US citizen 10 day tour

I am a US citizen traveling to China for tourism, and have an invitation for a 10 day tour from a travel agent located in China. It appears that I may qualify for the 240 hour stay without a visa. My question is whether I should apply for a visa to cover any situation where the tour might be delayed and my stay ended up being more than 240 hours, even though the delay was not caused by myself ( flight delay/cancellation, weather, etc.). Thank you

A visa is safer but I think the 240h is pretty reliable. And you can make it longer, like 11 days by arriving China in the early morning as the 10 days start from 00:00 on the second day. If the flight delays, you won't be responsible for it, the immigration calculate the 240-hour by the scheduled flight time.
