About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

UK-Beijing-Guanzhou-Hong Kong

I am looking at 2 different options to visit China

First option is to fly from the UK, to Beijing, stay there for 4 nights and then fly from Beijing to Guanzhou for 4 nights and then finally take the high speed railway from Guanzhou to Hong Kong West Kowloon station and stay in Hong Kong for 5 nights before coming back to the UK.

2nd option is not to go to Beijing and just fly into Guanzhou for 5 nights from the UK and then take the high speed railway from Guanzhou into Hong Kong West Kowloon station and stay there for a few nights before coming back to the UK

Can you let me know whether either of these itinerary are possible on the 240Hr TWOV?

If they are, do I need to buy the train tickets from Guanzhou to Hong Kong on an official site, or can I just use a site such as trip.com or Klook?

Both your itineraries are definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit under one condition and that one is that your arrival flight to mainland China, being it Beijing or Guangzhou, does not have a landing of any kind in Hong Kong just before mainland China. You will really have to buy your train tickets in advance, even before you depart from UK because those train tickets are the proof that you will be really in a transit through mainland China. Your best choice is definitely this website, Travel China Guide, but Trip.com is also a great choice. There is no need to book through official website because it is not exactly user friendly. The recommendation is that you print out your train ticket booking confirmation (the ticket) that has arrived in your email inbox and to have that printout ready to be presented in both UK during your check-in and upon landing in Beijing or Guangzhou.
